Performers that give a performance of any of my unpremiered works may receive reimbursement for
their music costs, and may be eligible for additional compensation depending on performance
quality. Potential compensation and reimbursement are contingent on the creation of a publicly
available
recording of the newly premiered work. The recording must be of a sufficiently high quality, both
from
the performers and from the recording technology. Generally, more demanding works will also demand a
higher quality of playing and recording.
Please keep in mind that many of my unpremiered works will need to be revised before they get sent.
This
means that a performer requesting to premiere a piece may have to wait several weeks or
months before receiving their music, depending on my personal schedule and length of
work.

this page. Only works marked as "Unpremiered" in the database above are eligible.
This policy is subject to modification over time.
In the case of large ensemble works, such as ones for string orchestra or full symphony orchestra,
scoring modifications, reductions, and expansions are available. If you wish to request a scoring
modification, please use my contact form on the homepage and explain what modifications you would like. If accepted, you will receive a quote for the cost of the modifications.
Certain modifications, such as changing the pitch of trumpet and clarinet parts for the entire score or parts of the score, are available
free of charge. More complicated modifications, such as removing or adding instruments, may incur additional charges. Requests may be denied.
The act of photocopying my music or distributing photocopies of my music is prohibited, unless done to "fill out" a section of players. For example, it is permitted to purchase one copy of a Violin I, Violin II, Viola, Cello, or Double Bass part and photocopy for the rest of the section.
I uphold a strict policy to never use generative AI or LLMs in the creation of music, art, or merchandise that I publish, sell, or offer. I also aim to avoid the use of AI throughout the business outside of music, art, and merchandise.
Music is more than just notes on a page and waves in the air. It's human creativity, intelligence, and emotion realized into art that decorates time, just as visual art decorates space. As such, it presents the opportunity for profound human connection and empathy.
Artificial intelligence may be able to produce "music" that sounds as good as human-made music, but music represents so much more than its sound. As such, normalizing "music" made by generative AI threatens to reduce and dehumanize music, sap the joy of songwriting, and discourage people from exploring and understanding the value of the arts in our society.
Besides, learning how to write music isn't nearly as difficult or expensive as you might expect, it just takes time. Most of my compositional knowledge comes from YouTube, learning the viola, and participating in orchestra. If you are willing to accept that exploring your own understanding of music and realizing your own creativity is more valuable than achieving a certain level of quality, you will almost certainly love writing music and be an incredible composer. You don't have to use artificial intelligence if you know your own value.
Please note, however, that I regularly use MIDI-generated recordings to publish YouTube videos. These are generated directly from MuseScore using sound libraries that sample live musicians, and are needed due to a lack of recordings for certain works. This is not the same as a work of "music" created by a generative AI model.
